University of Iowa professor Steve McGuire works with Chase Stevenson, 22, a senior in mechanical engineering from Cedar Rapids, far left, and Hunter Creel, 30, a second-year grad student in sculpture from Mount Vernon, Ill, center, during his bike building class on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 in Iowa City. McGuire developed the classes, Fabrication and Design: Hand Built Bicycle I and II, which have run since 2010.

Steve McGuire, a professor and avid cyclist at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, merged his passions for art and cycling into a unique class that teaches students not only to work with their hands, but to create something they can use every day for the rest of their lives. These beautiful hand-built bikes created in a basement shop on campus are rolling all over the globe.
